Shirley 58,

Support is so important

"I was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma affecting my right scapula in 1981. The only treatment was complete excision of the scapula including joint and major muscles surrounding. Luckily it hadn't spread but unluckily I was a musician, a violinist, and the operation left me unable to lift or extended my arm up,forward or laterally. It was wonderful to survive but quite isolating as I've never come across anyone who has had this total resection. It's also very hard to explain to people as I don't particularly look as if I have a disability. I'm grateful though for the time I've had. It could've been so different. I'm so glad there is more support for people going through this. There wasn't much in my time."

Thank you
